The Power of the Blood of Jesus

Recently, I read an email that I received, which explained the ability of the blood of Jesus to reconcile people to God and even to each other. That made me start thinking about the potency of the blood of our merciful Savior and its far-reaching effect. I felt I had to delve more into the power of Jesus’ blood, which makes peace and restores our relationship with God.

For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. Colossians 1:19-20

This is just a start of what the blood of Jesus can do. It also justifies us before God, while cleansing us from sin, thereby enabling us to have access to the Holy of Holies to be in the presence of the Lord of Hosts. Plus, it redeems us, heals us, makes us overcomers and offers us eternal life as Jesus’ shed blood enables the Father to forgive us of our sins. I am so thankful for the blood of the Perfect Lamb of God who took away my sins so that there is no longer a veil between me and the Heavenly Father.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, through His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let’s approach God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:19-22

The blood of Jesus is a mystery to anyone who has not accepted it and does not have a relationship with Him. The finished work of the cross that Jesus performed on Calvary makes no sense to many. But, to us who know Jesus, we understand how precious the blood of Jesus is.

Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 1 Peter 1:18-19

Jesus showed His unconditional love for a cursed sinful people who rejected Him repeatedly when He willingly died for them, freeing them from the punishment of their own sins. This truly is difficult to understand. Yet, those people are us and we continue to reject Jesus by our actions. We show Him no love by not obeying His commands, even though He has done what no other could do for us. He has offered us eternal life and freed us from a life in bondage to sin which would lead to a fiery eternity.

Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. Romans 5:9

That is a wrath that I never want to face, and now I don’t have to because we have been redeemed through Jesus’ blood and we have been forgiven for all the wrongs we have done according to the riches of His grace. (See Ephesians 1:7). We are now overcomers by the blood of the Lamb because the accuser of the saints has been thrown down. (See Revelations 12:10-11). Jesus Himself brought our sins in His body up on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness, and by His wounds we were healed. (See 1 Peter 2:24)

But He was pierced for our offenses, He was crushed for our wrongdoings; The punishment for our well-being was laid upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Not only are we healed in our bodies, emotions, and spirits by Jesus’ blood, but it brought us near to God when we had previously been faraway because of the sin committed in the garden of Eden. Nevertheless, Jesus determined in another garden in Gethsemane that He would take the bitter cup of suffering for us and release us from the burden of sin by becoming the greatest Sacrifice and giving up His precious powerful blood for us.
