Don’t Worry About a Thing

Rise up this morning

Smiled with the rising sun

Three little birds

Pitched by my doorstep

Singing sweet songs

Of melodies pure and true

Saying: This is my message to you

Singing: Don't worry about a thing'

Cause every little thing gonna be all right

You might be wondering why I am not quoting the Bible or a Christian author at the beginning of my article. Well, I have been meditating on these verses. I understand that you might say I should be mediating on Bible verses and not verses of a Bob Marley’s song. But for me I saw the connection with both. Look carefully who sings “don’t worry”. Yes, that would be three little birds. Jesus spoke about the birds who do not reap or sow, yet God still feeds them. So, why worry?

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? Matthew 6:25-27

God works all things for good for those who love Him and are called to His purpose. (See Romans 8:28). The only reason you would have to worry is if you don’t love God and you are not in His purpose. I am not writing this article after I have come through a challenging period, but right now I am in the middle of a major battle with a lot of problems coming at me from every direction and everywhere there are closed doors literally and figuratively. Within a few days my life could change drastically, and I can do nothing about it. But I know the One who can, and no closed door can stop Him.

Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”  John 20:19

I love it! There they are, the disciples, with all the doors shut, thinking no one can get in and then suddenly out of nowhere their leader who they thought was dead appears in front of them.  No closed door can stop Jesus from showing up in what seems to be a dead situation. He is the resurrection and the life. He brings life into what seems to be dead and appears on the other side of closed doors. He is a miracle working God, who continues to make ways where there seems to be no way.

Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness. And rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19

It is amazing when God does a new thing and brings about knew life, whether it is creating a path in what seems to be a wilderness experience, or raining down unexpected blessings in a dry season of life. Believe me, I would love some ways in my wilderness right now, but more importantly is that I believe in Him, knowing that He can do the impossible. And, when I can’t see a way, He can see everything, even into the future and He can make the way for me to get there. So, I don’t need to worry. I just need to rest in Him and not be anxious about anything.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

One of the greatest miracles is peace in the midst of life’s storms because we serve a God who can still the storms and if He doesn’t choose to do this, He will be with us through them. So, we don’t have to worry about a thing.
