I have been reading through the Book of Numbers, and I am learning more and more about how intentional God is about our lives. He has a specific place for us, with a specific assignment that has a specific way He wants it to be done. And also, for these assignments He gives us provisions that fit our task.
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Accept these from them, that they may be used in doing the work of the tabernacle of meeting; and you shall give them to the Levites, to every man according to his service.” So Moses took the carts and the oxen, and gave them to the Levites. Two carts and four oxen he gave to the sons of Gershon, according to their service; and four carts and eight oxen he gave to the sons of Merari, according to their service, under the authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. But to the sons of Kohath he gave none, because theirs was the service of the holy things, which they carried on their shoulders. Numbers 7: 4-9
The sons of Kohath received no cart or oxen because they did not need them. They carried the holy things on their shoulders. God does not waste anything. Remember when Jesus fed 4,000 and 5,000 men along with many others, He instructed His disciples to collect the leftovers. God gave the Israelites the manna they needed daily and double the day before the Sabbath so they would not have to go out and collect their food on this holy day of rest. They never had more than needed so there was no waste. When Jesus taught the disciples to pray, He showed them and us to pray for our daily bread. God gives what is needed, when it is needed for whatever it is needed for. If we don’t think we have what we need, we should probably ask ourselves a few questions.
Am I where God wants me to be?
Am I doing the assignment God wants me to do?
Am I using the resources that God has given me in a way that pleases Him in order to complete His assignment?
Some of us may not be in God’s position and therefore not doing the task He has assigned us. We don’t have because we are out of place doing another person’s assignment. We need to stop wanting to do what others are doing and coveting what they have because God is doing something different in our lives. We need to take time in His presence to let Him give us directions about our lives, rather than focusing on what others are doing and how God has blessed them for the tasks He has appointed them to do. Also, we may be in the right place, doing the right thing, but doing it in the wrong way. Those who have proven themselves faithful in little things, will be faithful with much. (See Luke 16:10). If we are not faithful with the little that God has given us, then why should He entrust us with more? God will give us the wisdom to carry out His work, so we must use it. His ways are not our ways, so even if they may not seem normal or culturally acceptable, we still need to do whatever God says to do and how He says to do it.
God strategically positions us, so we must not come out of His position even if it feels uncomfortable to us. Never forget that the enemy does not want us to walk into the destiny God has for us. This thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. He is just waiting for us to stray from God’s path to devour us. He will offer us things that glitter, that are not God’s refined gold. What may seem good to us, may not be of God, so we should not lean on our own understanding. Please recognize that what is religious and what is holy may not be the same. We need to seek God’s discernment to know the difference. And we must choose to do what is holy in the eyes of the Lord, by carrying out His appointed tasks.
“The appointed duty of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest is the oil for the light, the sweet incense, the daily grain offering, the anointing oil, the oversight of all the tabernacle, of all that is in it, with the sanctuary and its furnishings.” Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying: “Do not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites; but do this in regard to them, that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint each of them to his service and his task. But they shall not go in to watch while the holy things are being covered, lest they die.” Numbers 4:16-20
We must take care to obey God in our service for Him. Many Christians have started well for God then veered off His way, which has resulted in a separation from Him, which is basically spiritual death. Let us not take the tasks that God has given us for granted and know that He strategically places us where He wants, for the time in which He desires to carry out His specific assignment.
